Before knowing the difference between Logic Pro and GarageBand

When you have been using GarageBand and have become accustomed to its operation, you may want to do some more advanced editing.

At such times, some GarageBand users may wonder whether to buy Logic Pro, the higher-end version of the software.

So, in this article, we will explain the differences between GarageBand and Logic Pro to those who are wondering whether to switch from GarageBand to Logic Pro.

If you think you want to use Logic Pro after reading this, you may consider purchasing it.

The differences between GarageBand and Logic Pro are not so different on the screen, but there are some subtle differences.

Let’s take a look.

Differences between Logic Pro and GarageBand

1.No mixer.

GarageBand does not have a mixer.

In LogicPro, plug-ins are inserted on the mixer screen, but GarageBand only has slots for each track, so this may be a little difficult.

The mixer screen makes a big difference in efficiency. Since it is possible to send sounds to another track for processing via busses, sound creation becomes much more versatile.

Also, when opening a plug-in, GarageBand only allows you to open one plug-in. Since it is not possible to launch multiple plug-ins, you must adjust the EQ, then open the comp, then adjust the comp, then adjust the EQ, and so on, one at a time. This is inefficient because you have to do these operations one at a time.

In this respect, Logic Pro allows you to display multiple plug-ins at once, which makes it very easy to make adjustments and allows you to work back and forth between plug-ins easily and quickly.

2.No toolbar buttons

The toolbar button brings up tools that can be operated with a single button, such as (the ability to make changes to MIDI notes) and spot erase (the ability to erase MIDI notes by pressing the same note), but GarageBand does not have these tools.

The presence or absence of this button does not have a significant impact, but it is a useful feature for those who wish to simplify their work efficiency.

3.Multiple recording methods can be selected.

Logic Pro offers a variety of recording environments.

Sometimes you want to play a keyboard loop and record a good phrase that comes to mind.

Logic Pro has an “Import Recording Results” button that allows you to import the last best take you played into the recording results, even if you did not record it.

This way, you can record the exact phrase that inspired you.

This feature is quite useful and I use it often.

4.You can choose the mode

Logic Pro has a wide variety of menus that allow you to select modes with the touch of a button.

By using punch-in and punch-out (recording at a specified point), you can easily replace only the part of the recording you want to redo.

In low-latency mode, when using a variety of plug-ins, there is inevitably a delay in the sound, but pressing this button eliminates the sound delay so that recording can be done without stress.

5.Customizable display.

The display is the LCD screen you see most often while working, and in Logic Pro, you can customize this LCD screen to suit your viewing needs.

The system can also check how much CPU is being used, making it very convenient and easy to use.

6.Keys appear in Apple Loops.

Since LogicPro displays the key of Apple Loops, it is very convenient to create a song in as little as two minutes by simply matching the keys of the two materials.

It is also possible to achieve the best matching by matching the key of your own song and Apple Loops.

In GarageBand, the keys are not displayed, so it takes time to find the sound source in Apple Loops.

7.More drummer functions.

Drummer functionality is increasing in Logic Pro. For example, the drummer can be changed without changing the drum set, or the drum set (sound source) can be changed without changing the drummer.

You can also have ghost notes added in the detail screen.

Then there are features such as how much to tick the hi-hat.

These functions are limited in GarageBand and are only available in Logic Pro.

8.Organize tracks with track stacks

When the number of tracks increases, tracks can be combined into a single file track.

This feature allows you to neatly organize tracks that had become cluttered.

You can also combine guitar tracks into one, or drum tracks into one, so that the same effect can be applied to all tracks.

9.Editing Audio Files with Flex Pitch

Flex Pitch can be used to change the pitch of vocals and adjust their length and even vibrato.

It can also be used to tune the pitch of a bass or other instrument with unstable pitch to a perfect pitch, and its uses are endless.

There is a recommended plug-in for pitch editing software made by another company called “Melodyne,” which can do even better than Logic Pro’s pitch editing, so if you are interested, you may try it.

There are a lot of YouTube singers who use this software.

10.Wide selection of plug-ins

Logic Pro offers a rich lineup of plug-ins, including linear-phase EQs and various compressors that were not available in GarageBand.

The interface is also visually appealing and easy to understand, with a well-designed screen, unlike GarageBand’s slider-only interface.

11.Scale quantize can be done.

The function quantizes MIDI recorded sounds to the key of the song.

MIDI notes that are out of tune can be quantized to the key of the song at the touch of a button.

This function is not available in GarageBand.

12.A wealth of sound sources

Logic Pro offers a wide variety of piano sound sources and synthesizers that are not available in GarageBand. There are also many presets available for each sound source, making it difficult to choose a sound source.

13.Adjustments can be made between plug-ins.

One thing that I find quite inconvenient in GarageBand is plug-ins: if you have an EQ plug-in open and then launch another plug-in, the EQ disappears.

This is very inconvenient when you want to adjust other plug-ins while touching the EQ plug-in.

With Logic Pro, you can have as many plug-ins up and out as your specs allow, which is very convenient.

14.Score editor has few features

When creating a score in the Score Editor, there are limited features available. To use the full functionality, you must use Logic Pro.

15.No MIDI effects.

The only MIDI effect available in GarageBand is the arpeggiator, but Logic Pro has a wealth of MIDI effects that can be very useful when working with MIDI.

Summary of differences between Logic Pro and GarageBand

The higher version of Logic Pro has a variety of additional features just because it is called “Pro.

In addition to the features introduced here, there are many other features that are not available in GarageBand.

If you have become accustomed to GarageBand and want to take it to the next level, why not consider switching to Logic Pro?

See you soon.
